Commercial Interior Design Project-Number 9 Bistro Darras Hall

Thoroughly enjoyed working on our first commercial interior design project for Andrea the driving force and owner behind Number 9 Bistro in Darras Hall, Ponteland.

A lovely cup of coffee with a friend led to an introduction to Andrea and a whole conversation around the interior of Number 9 bistro. Already a very popular venue with locals and footballers alike due to its friendly atmosphere and fantastic food, Andrea wanted to inject glamour into the Bistro. The menu was being extended and more evenings being introduced so Andrea wanted to take the interiors up a notch.

As with every project the initial free meeting focused on understanding exactly what the client, in this case Andrea, was hoping to achieve.

Andrea wanted the Bistro to be comfortable through the day with a more glamorous feel for the evenings. The colour scheme was picked to accentuate the amazing bar that Andrea had previously installed. During the meeting Andrea advised that she liked peacock colours and they formed the basis of the scheme. The colours black, turquoise and navy blue with bronze and gold hi-lights.

The main wall was to provide the majority of the focus.  It was painted in Farrow& Ball Soft black and a long feature shelf was added to provide a focal point and create interest. We reorganised the furniture and utilised 2 mirrors which Andrea already had and they were painted and added above the shelf. The centre piece was found on a shopping expedition at the Great British Interiors of Morpeth, a stunning metal artwork of palm leaves.

Additional artwork was also added to the main wall as you enter the bistro.

The new shelf was accessorised with fairy lights, the colourful vases with palm leaves and peacock feathers and brass candle holders were added to create more ambience.

The tartan banquet seating was re-upholstered in a rich blue velvet fabric and lots of comfy cushions were added in black, turquoise, navy colours.

The table settings were all reviewed with little flower vases and candles added during the day and full settings at night.

Andrea and her team are delighted with the design and customer feedback has been amazing. Don’t take our word for it, go check it out for yourself

Client's comments

I have a small bistro on Darras Hall, Ponteland, Lorraine was a customer of mine drinking coffee...... the rest is history, she listened to my glitches and then came up with the goods.

The Bistro is being admired by everyone, it’s been the last part of the jigsaw to refine the business. Thank you so much Lorraine xx

Interior Design Project - Darras Hall

The Brief

Our recently completed project is a lovely House in Darras Hall, Ponteland.  The clients, Debbie and Mark, found us via Facebook, started following our page then made an enquiry.

The brief covered 3 main areas - the garden room, hall and landing. They asked us to change the look of the pine ceilings in the sun room, which has a stunning vaulted ceiling, hall and landing and to turn the garden room into a more useable space with lots of interior touches.  All three areas had track lighting which the client wanted to replace with more stylish lighting and two of the bedrooms needed new lighting too.
As with all of our projects we started off with a free initial meeting to fully understand the scope of the project. The client’s favourite style is New England style so we incorporated that into the brief.  Once we understood the brief, we provided a full quote including trades, styling etc. We then worked with the clients to produce a mood board which included everything from paint colours to light fittings and accessories.  Once the clients were happy with the initial mood board, we worked on it in more detail, giving the client access to their own on line mood board.  We used this to share ideas until the right pieces, colours etc were chosen.
The next step was to arrange schedules and oversee the trades.  Work got underway with the first fix electrics and then the decorators came on site to start the painting.  Once the decorators were finished their extensive work, the electrician completed the final fix and fitted all of the new lights.  We oversaw each element of the works, liaising with the trades, arranging timings and finally checking the completed works to ensure that both Debbie and Mark were satisfied.

The final part of the project was to style the garden room.  We kept the table, chairs and sofa and added a rug, large arched light and picture that the client sourced. We styled the sofa with a new throw and cushions, the client’s new side tables were accessorised with plants and candles and the dining table was accessorised with a runner and hurricane lamps. A new radiator cover was also added to the sun room and hall.  We then added a few additional pieces to the hall and stairs to bring it all together.

Thank you so much Lorraine you have transformed our hall and garden room gone are the awful lights and all that pine.  All the extra finishing touches are just amazing plus the pictures are finally up after 4years! We would thoroughly recommend Willow and Maine to anyone who wants inspiration without being ripped off.

Home Staging Project - Lintzford Mill

We’ve just had the absolute pleasure of styling a beautiful house on the river Derwent, Co Durham prior to the owners putting it on the market. The main areas of focus for the styling were the lounge, kitchen-diner and the bedrooms.

Prior to our arrival, the house had been given a deep clean so we set to work on the lounge.  To create light and more space, we moved all of the furniture.  The only item that wasn’t moved was the TV.
We removed all the items from the bookcases and tables and once the furniture was in its new space, a selection of pieces were placed for display with the remainder either being packed away or given to charity.
The difference to the room, just by moving the furniture, was huge as it created more space and made the room lighter.
The next room to be tackled was the kitchen.  Once again, we moved the furniture to show the room at its best, which in this case, involved moving the dining table to in front of the window. The kitchen had lots of open shelves and glass front cupboards so everything was removed and then a selection of attractive items were carefully styled into the shelves etc.
The hallway had a small amount of attention but mainly just removing coats and shoes. The bathrooms and toilets too had only a little attention needed, mainly slimming down the number of toiletries and putting out fresh towels.
In the bedrooms we focussed on putting anything away which didn't add to the room.  The master bedroom, with its huge window overlooking the river, needed only a throw added to bring the scheme together. The spare room was de-cluttered with crisp white bedding and cushions added. In the final bedroom we moved some of the furniture, decluttered and added some cushions and flowers.

As a result of these changes, the house feels much lighter and more spacious throughout so much so that the client was thinking twice about putting it on the market. The client's were also very pleased that the work was very reasonable.

(see above for the completed work and below for the before pictures)

Client's Comments

When we decided to put our house up for sale, we knew that we needed to declutter, but other than that we didn’t really know what else to do.
I knew that Lorraine did home styling so we decided to ask for her help.
Lorraine came for a free consultation, and as soon as she started making suggestions of things we would have never that thought of, we knew we had made the right decision.
Lorraine then came and spent time with us, moving furniture, decluttering, placing candles, vases etc and flower arranging, the results were fantastic and far exceeded our expectations.  We wondered why we were selling!!
When the Estate agents came they commented that they sometimes suggest making changes but in our case there was nothing that they would change.  The photography team also commented that it make their job much easier.
When we have shown our family the video and photographs they all commented that the house had never looked so good.
We cannot thank Lorraine enough for all the help, advice and hard labour she has given us!  We would definitely recommend her services and will most certainly we will be using her in our new home for interior design!

Cottage in Prudhoe

The Brief

Our client bought a new house and asked us to assist with the master bedroom, kitchen and lounge. The full interior design package was required including floor coverings, full decoration, window dressings and some items of furniture. Accessories were also sourced and the rooms fully styled.

The project was delivered on time and within budget.

Clients comments

" I first used Lorraine's services in 2017. I had my house up for sale in Whickham for over 5 months with lots of viewings but no offers.  Lorraine visited the house and suggested dressing the house to help it sell.  The estate agent took new photographs once the work was complete and the first people who viewed, made an offer.

I then asked Lorraine if she would help with the interior design of my new house in Prudhoe.  We agreed a brief for the design and budget and she always kept me informed with everything from developing the designs for each room, the mood boards and the items to be ordered.   She also arranged quality local tradesmen to do the required electrical work, decoration, blind making and joinery.  Loved Lorraine's design ideas. I could have gone absolutely crazy as there was so much I would like to have bought! The transformation is absolutely amazing with the budget I had. Looking forward to doing the next rooms in the house".

New Build in Ryton, Tyne & Wear

The Brief

I was asked by Simon and Lindsay to assist with the interior design of their hall, stairs and landing. Following the initial consultation I presented the mood board with wallpapers, fabrics and accessories. We agreed upon the theme and I sourced the wallpaper, fabric and accessories. I arranged for the roman blind and cushions to be made. The clients used their own decorator who did an expert job. Once complete we agreed on the final wall decorations of family canvases and a couple of key pieces to enhance the space.

Client comments

"We have had the pleasure of Lorraine undertaking a project for our home. Working with Willow and Maine was so easy, we told Lorraine what kind of things we liked and she came back with a mood board and ideas that we loved. We are so happy with the finished look and wouldn’t have picked the items ourselves so it’s definitely worth getting an expert in before spending money on decorating etc. All our guests comment on the new look. Over the moon and would recommend in the blink of an eye. We will be using her services again".
