Interior Design-The Rectory Chester-Le- Street

We were contacted by Karen and Cliff who live in an incredible former rectory in County Durham. They wanted to update their staircase including balcony landing over three floors, with three hallways and over twenty doors.

It had been some time since it was fully redecorated as it was such a huge task. Karen and Cliff wanted the staircase to be elegant, with warm neutral colours, panelling on the bottom half of walls, new cornicing, new lights, new wall art, new carpets, and window dressings.  We obtained quotes from the trades and then the project got underway. The decorators stripped all the old wallpaper from the walls which also allowed us to see if full replastering was needed but thankfully, it only required skimming.

The electrics also had to be updated and new switches added. Once the skimming was complete, the joiners added panelling to all the walls and new cornicing was added to the ceiling where needed and around the new archways. The decorators then painted the walls and panelling. New lights were sourced, and a beautiful new Chandelier installed.

The project was completed with a new carpet throughout, new bespoke curtains and blinds, and we added wall art and accessorised the hallway and vestibule.

It was a lovely project to work on and the clients were delighted with the finished result.

Client's comments

'We first met Lorraine as we considered the renovation of the hallway, landing and stairs of our Victorian home.

The sheer size of the project, three separate staircases, over three floors, involving complete replastering and electrics, could have easily felt daunting. Lorraine, however, guided us through the whole process from the planning stage to completion with professionalism and personal attention to detail.

Lorraine took her time to get to know us, to understand our tastes and the look we were aiming for. This gave us a very personal touch, that can be seen in the finished project. She happily sourced different materials and schemes to give us plenty of options.

We were able to achieve the modern elegant look we wanted whilst complimenting the original Victorian features.

Lorraine was readily available to help coordinate different stages of the project, reassuring us with colour choices and various decisions along the way. She was also keen to keep to a realistic budget throughout the work.

Lorraine is friendly, personable and professional with a great eye for detail. She did a fantastic job as the work neared completion, adding personal touches which made the finished result so special.

I would not hesitate to recommend Lorraine; in fact, I have already done so.

She is also currently helping us with a much smaller project that compliments the hallway, and we will definitely use her services again in the future. We are absolutely delighted with the finished result we achieved with Lorraine’s guidance.'
